A 24-Hour Celebration of Hope: YOSC Race for Life Raises Over £26,000 for Cancer Research

Last weekend, Yate Outdoor Sports Complex (YOSC) was filled with laughter, determination, and an overwhelming sense of community as over 300 people came together for a truly unforgettable Race for Life event in support of Cancer Research UK.

Over the course of 24 inspiring hours, participants walked, jogged, danced, and even bubble-blasted their way around the track, raising an incredible £26,000+ in the fight against cancer.
The event was officially opened by local MP Claire Yong, whose presence helped kick off the day with passion and purpose. From there, the energy never dipped — it only grew stronger as team after team took to the track with enthusiasm, creativity, and a shared commitment to making a difference.

Twenty fantastic teams took part, each bringing their own unique spirit to the challenge. With names like The Walkie Talkies, Lei of Life, The MIS-FITS, Sweet Caroline, Sleepwalking Superheroes, and Miles 4 Smiles, the event was full of fun, colour, and meaning. Whether it was the 1st Yate Scout Group, Yate United, Nanny’s Shining Light, or Walking in Brimsham, every team played their part in creating a weekend to remember.

Throughout the 24 hours, participants took part in themed hours, from fancy dress laps to bubbles galore, and plenty of spontaneous dancing and cheering. The atmosphere was electric — positive, supportive, and deeply moving. Whether walking in memory of loved ones, in celebration of survivors, or simply to support the cause, every step counted.
The local community rallied behind the event in a big way — joining teams, donating generously, and cheering from the sidelines. It was a true show of unity and compassion.
As the final lap came to a close, there was a real sense of achievement and hope. The funds raised will go directly toward life-saving research and support for those affected by cancer — a testament to what a determined community can do when it comes together for a shared cause.

To everyone who walked, volunteered, donated, or simply showed up to support: thank you. Your time, energy, and generosity are helping to change lives.
Until next year — let’s keep walking towards a cancer-free future. 💖
